1.1.2018 · 2005 GMC 5.3L 7 thermostats and still not getting to operating temp Hello i have a 2005 GMC truck 5.3L new rad new hoses heater core is good when i changed the rad i decided to change the thermostat since i had it all apart anyway. Ever since i changed the T stat my engine has not gotten to operating temp that was back in april of 2021. Unlike our 2005 Corolla which has a spring loaded automatic tensioner arm with the "fake bolt" for releasing the tension, the newer 09-13, 2014 & 2015 models use a long bolt in a bracket attached to the alternator for tensioning the belt.
